Kakwa Wildland Park
The road as far as Two Lakes (located 120 km south of Grande Prairie) is passable in good weather; travel beyond Two Lakes to the Kakwa Falls parking lot requires a quad, 4-wheel drive vehicle or a skidoo. Visitors should check ahead for road conditions. Permits are required for winter snowmobile camps. Please purchase the passes at any of the dealers. For information about road conditions or to obtain a winter camp permit, contact Parks Division in Grande Prairie at 780-538-5350.

Camp Permits Have Changed!
No More Kakwa Race..... As of this year the Swan City Snowmobile Club will be taking over the camp registration for the Lick Creek & Sherman Meadows Areas. (Does not include Camping inside the Park – Forestry will still handle this)
Camps can go in at Lick Creek and Sherman Meadows Areas on Friday, October 28th, 2011 and must be out on Monday, April 16, 2012.
We will be mapping campsites so this should eliminate the Kakwa Race. The fee for camping is set at $200.00 per camp unit. Payment is preferable in cash or cheque. This has been approved by Forestry to help offset costs for management of the Kakwa sledding area.
To purchase a permit, please contact Len Freisz at (780) 538-0210.
Kakwa - Miscellaneous Updates
Jan 26, 2012
The groomer operator reported that roads are in good winter driving condition but it was snowing heavily when he pulled out of the parking lot wednesday evening. SNOW - LOTS! 5+inches in parking lot and over a foot fresh after the border - woohoo!!
Jan 14, 2012
There's 6" to 8" of fresh snow from km. 80 all the way to the parking lot. The road is in good shape, but there will still be ice under the snow until it gets packed down, so use caution always!
Al and Laurie have the trail in great shape, but care is always needed all the way to Horn Ridge as it is still icy. Laurie had a crew out on Thursday and took the small groomers around through Broadview and around Kakwa Lake to Babette. Thanks to Darren Shmyr who looked after bus this weekend collecting money for passes. It's great to see that the word is getting out and a good portion of the people realize the effort and cost it takes to look after the club and groomer operations. However, there are still those out there that don't understand what we are about and their part in helping to maintain access to our great wildlands.
We have a red pail at the cabin for collecting cigarette butts. USE |IT, as this is one of the concerns that BC Parks has brought forward. In the spring time the front of the cabin is littered with butts, so please put your butts in the pail and we will haul it out in the spring.
Also, if you head into the cabin, we have a skimmer at the start of the lake to haul fire wood across to the cabin. So please grab a load and bring it along on your way in! And if the skimmer's at the cabin and your heading back home, please haul it back to the end of the lake. Also, if someone has a extra hand saw to leave at the cabin, it would be appreciated.
Woohoo!! FRESH DEEP SNOW IN BROADVIEW PASS AND FLAT TOP !!!! ENJOY!!
